Consultation Opportunity ‘My Body, My Voice’ by WHISE

‘My Body, My Voice’ is a research project launched by Women’s Health in the South East (WHISE). The project explores the experiences of body image, by women with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and other over-lapping identities.

Body image has long been understood as an able-bodied woman’s ‘concern’. WHISE aims to diversify that conversation more broadly to include women with disabilities and other intersecting identities.

The survey is open for all women, and people assigned female at birth, who have (or have had) a disability.

The project aims to answer the following research question: How do women with disabilities and other over-lapping identities feel toward their body, why, and what can we do about it?

Resources - Mental Health and Wellbeing

Self-care is the practice of taking care of ourselves so that we can stay physically, mentally, and emotionally well.

While we all have different ways of practising self-care, the ultimate goal is to make sure we spend time doing things that:

  • Make us feel happy and healthy
  • Lower our risk of disease and illness
  • Help us manage stress or cope during challenging times
  • Allow us to feel physically and psychologically safe
  • Promote strong social connections.

Sometimes, self-care activities don’t require much thought - like brushing our teeth or having a coffee with a friend.

Ultimately, a self-care activity is something that fills our ‘wellbeing cup’ instead of emptying it. For more information, tools and more visit Lifeline’s website found here.

We would love to hear any feedback you have and any ideas on what you would like to see included in the upcoming editions. You can email us at [email protected] or use the new anonymous PR Feedback Form
